Bar stool Sid
Powder coating of the metal frame provides strength and durability of the coating. The stool frame is powder coated in a powder chamber, which provides additional protection against mechanical damage and unfavourable weather conditions. This makes the Sid bar stool ideal for terraces, summer cafes, restaurants and the entire HoReCa segment. And also for home use in the dining area.
The backrest provides the necessary support for the lumbar area and lumbo-thoracic region, allowing you to enjoy a comfortable seating position for long periods of time.
In addition, the armrests of the Sid chair are equipped with soft ‘gloves’. This gives a feeling of warmth and cosiness on contact. The slightly curved armrest with a smooth slope along its entire length forms an ergonomic hollow, following the shape of the forearm in the natural position of the hand sitting on the chair. The Sid bar stool is very stable: the slightly put forward rung provides a comfortable footrest and balance when standing up. The rear rung is positioned in such a way that it does not interfere with the movement of the chair while holding it from behind. Despite its light weight and compact frame, the Sid chair is equally comfortable for people of different bodily constitution.
Sid is available in three versions: standard, semi-bar and bar stool.

The Sid chair is a piece inspired by one of the main characters from the well-known animated film "Ice Age"—the sloth named Sid. The design concept of this item was shaped during the ergonomic development of the chair. While sketching the armrest in relation to the backrest, Sergei Gravchikov noticed how closely the shape resembled the familiar character. This observation led to the idea of further developing this theme and focusing on it.
The love for contrasts and opposites is a common theme in UNIKA products, and the Sid chair is no exception. The thin and delicate metal legs, often associated with coldness and aloofness, contrast with the soft and plush form of the seat, adding warmth and comfort to the design.
The interpretation of the character's personality and his physical features are expressed in recognizable elements. The shape of the armrests flowing into the backrest and the tapered supports directly reference the character's image, while the soft "gloves" enhance it, giving it a friendly and slightly naive demeanor, inviting everyone to take a cozy break from the daily hustle and bustle.
The Sid chair is the first UNIKA piece with a solid metal frame.
However, the first prototype of the Sid chair was made of wood, but this made it overloaded and did not allow the intended image to be realised. It was decided to experiment and utilise new materials and technologies in the creation of this item.
During subsequent iterations of prototyping, it became apparent that we could emphasise the intended image by using a new material and creating elements that were difficult to implement when working with wood.
Why Sid? А question that our designers have heard many times during the production of an item. And the answer is quite simple. The image of the chair was formed at the very first stage of development. We wanted to continue creating objects that would be adaptable to different spaces in terms of size and functionality. During the sketching process, sketches of a character familiar to many people became more and more recognisable. Thus, even before the object itself appeared, its name was already predetermined.
The Sid chair was conceived as a utilitarian object - simple, clean, ergonomic. Its similarity to the cartoon character gave it recognisable characteristics and endowed it with unique features. Sid, just like the character, can be different depending on the finish: smooth fabrics will add rigour and collectedness, while bouclé will give it playfulness and friendliness.
The bar and semi-bar versions of the Sid stool feature several technical innovations: the all-bent metal kingpin contour provides a sturdy support and allows the stool to bear more weight. The front arm has been moved slightly forwards, so that the chair remains stable when standing or resting on it. The legs of the chair have neat rubber pads - more durable than felt and plastic - which protect the floor from scratches and other kinds of damage.
